Top Underdog Fantasy Draft Advice for the 2024 Best Ball Season

Quarterback Draft Strategy for 2024

With the landscape of NFL quarterbacks constantly evolving, identifying value among both rising stars and undervalued veterans is key. We’ll explore prospects and seasoned QBs poised for a big 2024.

Our recommended strategy is to ignore quarterbacks for the first half of the draft. Target consistent veteran options who have no chance to be overtaken by a rookie or trade.

Target: Kirk Cousins, Matt Stafford, Jared Goff, Derek Carr, Will Levis

Avoid: Josh Allen, Anthony Richardson, Justin Fields, CJ Stroud

Running Back Insights and Draft Strategy for 2024

The running back position is notoriously volatile but essential for fantasy success. We’ll delve into strategies for selecting running backs, highlighting potential breakout stars and value picks.

The simplest strategy is to take a “hero” running back in the first or second round, then build out the roster with back-to-back selections between rounds 6 and 8. Complete the build by stacking a backup RB to an earlier selection or take a chance on multiple rookies.

Target: One of Christian McCaffrey, Bijan Robinson, Kyren Williams or Jonathan Taylor, and then a combination of Aaron Jones, Derrick Henry, Joe Mixon, Austin Ekeler, Tony Pollard, James Conner or Raheem Mostert.

Avoid: Breece Hall, De’von Achane, Nick Chubb

Wide Receiver and Tight End Breakdown: Draft Strategy for 2024

In the pass-heavy modern NFL, securing high-upside receivers and tight ends can be the difference between winning and losing. This section will guide you through targeting dynamic duos and sleeper picks.

Always target a receiver in round 1. Amon-Ra St. Brown, A.J Brown and Puka Nacua should be taken before Bijan Robinson or Jahmyr Gibbs for consistency at the most valuable position. Always go heavy on receivers, they should be your first priority in every draft. Error on the side of caution and take up to 10 receivers per 20 spot draft.

Target: All current first round receivers, then a combination of Cooper Kupp, Amari Cooper or Zay Flowers in the third and fourth rounds.

Avoid: Rashee Rice, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Davante Adams, D.K Metcalf.

Rookie Impact: Receiver-Heavy Class in 2024

I am not overly impressed by any one running back prospect so far, but it is a much different story with this years receivers. Marvin Harrison Jr. is a risk at 17.0, but Malik Nabers and Rome Odunze could easily provide their weight in gold at 37.0 and 53.0 respectively. I would take Nabers in a situation where I cannot acquire Keenan Allen, and Nabers where I need a second or third receiver with only Jayden Reed ahead of him.

Drafting rookies in early rounds is always dangerous; Jaxon Smith-Njigba played phenomenal last year and was still overpriced for his production at 61.0 (he has actually went down a bit since last year). However, advanced metrics show that Jacob Cowing, Jamari Thrash and Brian Thomas Jr. could be stars, and I am intrigued by Xavier Legette’s skill and ability at his size. I would target two-three rookie wide receivers in every draft this year, especially after round 15. I like Xavier Worthy a lot as well, but keep in mind that he could end up in a Marvin Mims Jr. special teams situation depending on the team that drafts him. Legette looks like a young A.J Brown, and I look to pick him up every draft. McConkey should step up as a starter quickly, and provides solid value. Thrash and Cowing are risks but have good measurables and could go in the third or fourth round of the NFL draft.

Target: Malik Nabers, Rome Odunze, Brian Thomas Jr., Ladd McConkey, Xavier Worthy, Xavier Legette, Jamari Thrash, Jacob Cowing.

Injury Comebacks: Players to Monitor

It is always better to play it safe and avoid a zero-production pick due to past injury concerns. Do not take unnecessary risks on players just because they have been fantasy winners in the past.

Avoid: Nick Chubb, JK Dobbins, Deshaun Watson, Michael Thomas.

Past Their Prime

Be careful drafting players who are past the age of 30 (receivers) or 27 (running backs).

Avoid: Darnell Mooney, Mike Williams, Michael Thomas, Ezekiel Elliot, Davante Adams, Mark Andrews, Calvin Ridley, Khalil Herbert, Miles Sanders.
