2024 NFL Mock Draft: Falcons Trade Up For Daniels; 4 Quarterbacks Go Within the First 8 Selections
The NFL Combine is underway, and it is time for the big decisions to be made in the pre-draft process. With the 2024 NFL Draft on the horizon, let’s delve into a refreshed mock draft with JJ McCarthy jumping into our top 10.
Round 1 Overview:
- Chicago goes all in: Chicago opts for Caleb Williams, a high-risk high-reward pick. There are multiple teams that would trade up for Williams, but Chicago will ultimately draft Williams and move on from Justin Fields. Williams’ addition could mark a new era for a team that is desperately searching for a player to build around, and the best position to do it is at quarterback.
- Washington Follows Suit: Under new management, Washington selects Drake Maye as their quarterback. Maye is the obvious QB2 this year and will look to become the face of the franchise.
- Falcons Trade Up: Atlanta secures Jayden Daniels through a trade with New England. Daniels, celebrated for his dual-threat capabilities and experience, will ignite an explosive offense that has been waiting to break out. With Authur Smith gone, it is the perfect time to restructure the offense.
- Marvin Harrison Jr. joins Arizona, giving Kyler Murray a true WR1. This is a no-brainer for Arizona, who have wisely committed to keeping Murray as their franchise quarterback.
- L.A. Chargers’ go off script: Malik Nabers is chosen by the Chargers, who are looking to release a combination of Mike Williams or Keenan Allen. Nabers’ electrifying play last season for LSU makes him a match made in heaven for Justin Herbert.
- N.Y. Giants Enhance Receiver Depth: Rome Odunze is picked early to rejuvenate the Giants’ receiving corps. Daniel Jones and his gargantuan contract are not going anywhere, and Odunze is a good fit.
- Tennessee Fortifies O-Line: Joe Alt is selected to protect Will Levis. This is another no-brainer; the Titans O-Line was tough to watch last year and Joe Alt is the best option available.
- The End of the Jones/Zappe Era: Post-trade, New England picks J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy’s selection is part of a broader strategy to accumulate draft assets next year while securing a potentially undervalued QB talent. The Patriots will not be competitive next year so their draft selections are not limited to their immediate needs, and McCarthy will at least give the team some direction.
